How is the difference between two dates calculated?
This tool calculates the number of days (and approximate years/months) between two dates, automatically accounting for each month's length and leap years — something that's genuinely hard to compute accurately by hand, especially for long periods.
Example: The gap between January 1 and March 1 isn't always exactly 59 days — it depends on whether it's a leap year (February has 28 or 29 days).
Are both start and end dates counted?
In standard counting, the difference is the number of days between the two dates without double-counting the start day. If you need an "inclusive" count of both days (like calculating a hotel stay), you may need to add one day to the result depending on your case.
Common uses
Counting down days to an important event (travel, exam, occasion), the length of a contract or project, or how many days have passed since a specific event.
